In many posts on the Notebook Computer Lock Blog I’ve mentioned Kensington locks and the Kensington slot. As far as I’m concerned the concept of this security feature is pretty easy but it seems that there’s still a lack of information concerning the topic.

A Kensington Security Slot is is a small, metal-reinforced hole found on almost all small or portable computer and electronics equipment, particularly on expensive ones, such as laptops, computer monitors, desktop computers, gaming consoles, and video projectors. It is used for attaching a Notebook Computer Lock. Locks are generally secured in place with a key or some mechanical PIN device and attached through a rubberised metal cable. The end of the cable has a small loop which allows the cable to be looped around a permanent object, such as a heavy table or other similar equipment, thus securing it in place.
I hope this explanation does it for you. Maybe you should know also that around 99 percent of all laptops provide a Kensington slot for plugging in your notebook computer lock.
Here’s an interesting variation of a Notebook Computer Lock. Looks more like something I would secure my car with. But nonetheless it could be pretty safe.
